Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility

Certified Financial Planner Board, Code of Ethics

Integrity  
A CFP designee shall offer and provide professional services with integrity.

Objectivity
A CFP designee shall be objective in providing professional services to clients.

Competence
A CFP designee shall provide services to clients competently and maintain the necessary knowledge and skill to continue to do so in those areas in which the designee is engaged.

Fairness
A CFP designee shall provide professional services in a manner that is fair and reasonable to clients, principals, partners, and employers and shall disclose conflict(s) of interest(s) in providing such services.

Confidentiality
A CFP designee shall not disclose any confidential client information without the specific consent of the client unless in response to proper legal process, to defend against charges of wrongdoing by the CFP designee or in connection with a civil dispute between the CFP designee and a client.

Professionalism
A CFP designee’s conduct in all matters shall reflect credit upon the profession.

Diligence
A CFP designee shall act diligently in providing professional services.

In addition to the very high standards of ethics with the Certified Financial Planner Board, Wightman Financial is one of the very few firms in the world to swear to even higher ethical and professional standards, those of the National Association of Professional Advisors. In summary, the Ethical Code states the following in addition to that stated in the CFP Board Code of Ethics:

NAPFA Code of Ethics summary

 Objectivity NAPFA members shall strive to be as unbiased as possible in providing advice to clients.
 Fairness and Suitability Dealings and recommendations with clients will always be in the client’s best interest. NAPFA members put their clients first.
 Full Disclosure A NAPFA member will fully describe methods of compensation and conflicts of interest to prospective clients.
 Confidentiality Members shall keep all client data private unless receiving authorization from the client to share it. Members shall treat all documents with care and take care when disposing of them. Relations with clients shall be kept private.
 Integrity and Honesty A NAPFA member will endeavor to always take the high road. We are diligent to keep our actions and reactions so far above the board that a thinking client, or other professional, would not doubt our intentions.
 Professionalism Members shall conduct themselves in a way that would be a credit to NAPFA at all times. NAPFA membership involves integrity, honest treatment of clients and treating people with respect.
 Competence Members shall maintain a high level of knowledge and ability and shall attain a minimum continuing education of at least sixty hours study each two year or that which is stated in current NAPFA standards.
 Regulatory Compliance A NAPFA member shall strive to maintain conformity with legal regulations.
